Bend Forest School & Wondery Art + Adventure School
S.T.E.A.M. Studio
Hands-on math, engineering, and art for curious 3rd–6th graders
What if learning about graphs and equations looked less like a worksheet and more like creating a work of art?
In this six-session studio, students will explore ratios, slope, graphing, engineering, and artistic design through hands-on string art projects in both two and three dimensions. By translating lines, patterns, and mathematical relationships into works of art, students will experience math as something they can plan, build, and create.
Younger students will develop a physical understanding of how ratios can represent slope, while older students will extend their thinking into linear equations, horizontal and vertical shifts, and early pre-calculus concepts.
Throughout the studio, students will practice:
Ratios and fractions
Slope and graphing
Horizontal and vertical shifts
Engineering and project planning
2D and 3D design
Presentation skills
No advanced math or art experience is required.

What is S.T.E.A.M.?
S.T.E.A.M. stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.
Like all Bend Forest School programs, S.T.E.A.M. Studio supports the whole child. Students will not only engage in joyful academic learning, but also build confidence, social-emotional skills, community connection, and creative independence. Each session includes time for group learning, individual creation, reflection, and connection.
Who Is This Studio For?
